一个人若想把圣经正确运用在自己的灵命成长、布道或是教导上，他必须先有意识地发现这段经文的正确解释。由于这一点的重要性，以及篇幅所限，这本简明注释书首要关注的就是经文解释。因此，它就每个段落都提出两个问题：
这段经文在说什么？
这段经文有什么含义？
只有当这两个问题得到解答，圣经研读者才可以进一步从事灵修性与解释性的应用。
本书经文采用英王钦定本，但文内也会不断引用希腊原文，以至于读者可以更全面受益于原文提供的亮光。
引言中出现的分析性书信大纲，也会交织在注释书的文脉当中，使读者可以更容易跟上书信的思想脉络。因此，本注释书是一个连贯的整体，而不是一系列分散的、对孤立经文的注解。读者在使用此注释书的时候，一定要将圣经摆在面前。另外，使用本书时最好阅读整段经文的注解，而不是局限于正在研究的某一节经文的解释上。
从一节经文进展到下一节经文时，作者会在括号内注明经节数，并放置在本注释的内文里面。这一安排为的是强调每封书信的整体性，避免不自然的分段，这些分段往往会打断原来的思路进程。
本书作者诚挚地祈祷，使用这本小书的读者都将得到圣灵这位神圣教师的启迪式助佑，并且透过这部分神话语的学习，得到在恩典和属灵知识上的真实长进。
